Vom Ritchie sent me over a demo of a partially written song called "Six are the One". A song about mates being joined in an "all for one, one for all" bond. A pretty good theme for a song but one I struggled to work with. So I had the idea of a "boy plays in band, everyone says it'll come to nothing, boy makes good, everyone says they knew he would" story based extremely loosely on Vom with a little of my teenage years thrown in.

The verse and chorus are Vom's although I changed the tune very, very slightly in the way I sing it. The middle Eight is mine.

I recorded it playing the quiet guitars on the intro and verses but the track was struggling until James Stevenson came over and transformed it with all sorts of wonderful loud guitars. Just check out the brilliant David Bowie type stuff on the second verse and the heavy Tamla Motown playing on the middle 8. Genius! Tony had the idea for the fade out at the end with all the vocal parts which again was inspired.
