As I mentioned before the first lock down was kind of fun. If you could relax into it, a stress free limbo took over. The second lock down was miserable. It stretched on forever through cold, dark winter nights. Football was back but in soulless, empty stadiums, as we became conditioned to computer conversations from our solitude.
In the middle of this I turned on the TV to see an old Michael Palin travelogue, with the great man surrounded by a seething mass of humanity in Cairo railway station. I was shocked. I couldn’t imagine so many people crammed into a space breathing the same air. I looked at a picture on a wall of my lovely house of happy times in Argentina and felt sorry for myself.
“This won’t do”, I thought. “Write yourself a song to cheer up”. So I did.
